Top 7 Benefits of SEO
What are the real benefits of SEO and what is worth considering whether you should invest your time and money in SEO campaigns
In the past, I’ve been involved in many discussions about the real benefits of SEO which led me to the opinion that many people might not understand the real potential of an organic marketing strategy when implemented to the business.
When speaking with others I always remind that SEO needs time and precision to work and develop great results. So if you are looking for instant traffic and goal completion you might want to consider other sources such as paid ads.
In this blog, I would like to cover the top 7 SEO benefits that will convince you to invest in SEO projects.
1. More Organic Conversions
Most business owners expect very specific results from their digital marketing campaigns. Depending on the type of business these could be leads from contact forms, phone calls, small and big contracts, or purchases made on the website. No matter what business you are working for, your goal will be to increase the sales/income or brand awareness of the website.
The rule is simple:
More Clicks & Conversions = More Money For Business = Return of Investment in SEO
Improve the content across your website, add additional CTA buttons, reduce the number of errors and technical issues such as slow loading pages - this should lead to better conversion rates.
2. Higher Quality Traffic To The Website
Sometimes people try to measure the results just in the number of views or visits on at website. But is it really all about large numbers of visitors or more about smaller numbers but higher quality?
SEO will help you to target your chosen audience. You should use specific keywords across the website and optimise the content and design in a way to improve user experience and shorten user journey.
Even simple tasks such as creating encouraging meta titles & descriptions you are going to improve the click-through rate of the website.
3. Long Lasting Results
As mentioned previously, paid ads are a great way to increase traffic, but the biggest con is that if you will ever have to decrease your budget or fully cancel your campaign, all results will be lost. At the same time if the SEO campaign is paused for some time or cancelled the effects of the campaign will last for many months before they will lose on their value (bear in mind your competitors might start an SEO campaign whilst yours is paused and the effects will vary depending on the current state of the market).
I think that at the start of the campaign it is a really good idea to share a budget between SEO & PPC. It gives them immediate effects from paid ads whilst I or any other SEO experts can work in the background on website improvements which will lead to a better ranking position in the future.
4. Overview Of Website Performance
It is recommended to review your website often from many perspectives. A website which was performing well 3-4 years ago will most likely be outdated (if it hasn't been maintained properly during that time).
If your website does not perform well anymore you will see the proof of it in the Google Analytics & Google Search Console. These two free SEO tools will show you information about user behaviour on your website. You should be concerned if your traffic has been decreasing over the past months or if any anomalies started to appear.
Additionally, I would suggest getting an overview of traffic on a monthly or quarterly basis and compare it to the same period in the previous year. Remember that if you use month-to-month comparison then you can see great increases or drops but hey, have you considered seasonality?
5. Stronger Digital Marketing
Digital marketing is becoming more and more complex. In the times of the COVID-19 pandemic, it has been proven that a strong presence in the digital world is now vital. With a good SEO strategy in place, your website will be like a big billboard in real life, the only difference is that everyone who has access to the internet will be able to see it and you won’t be limited to this particular location.
You should remember that SEO is just one of the segments of digital marketing and you should look to expand beyond that to strengthen the results. You might want to create additional social media accounts on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or Tik Tok. You might also want to think about email marketing and paid ad campaigns. It all depends on the type of business you run & audience you are targeting.
6. Overgrowing The Competiton
As online presence is very important in 2020, you should remember that your competitors are not sleeping or looking back. They are trying to find the ways to beat you in Googles rankings, amount of conversions & leads they get.
With a good SEO strategy which contains on-site, off-site & technical SEO you can move up in the search engine rankings faster than you think. If competition already works hard on their digital marketing campaigns you will have to chase them by creating high quality and engaging content or internal linking strategies. You might have to invest your time and money in finding ways for website collaboration and gathering backlinks. This might take a bit of time so be patient and work tirelessly and all your effort will pay off.
7. Improved Local Presence
If you run a local business your online presence is crucial. Of course, you can count on word of mouth and the fact that you have years of experience, but to increase the valuable traffic numbers and get new leads you will need a bit more than that.
Running a well prepared SEO campaign will allow you to promote your business to potential local clients who are looking for services & businesses like yours.
You could ask how can I promote my business in this area? Create dedicated local pages which will focus on keywords that target the locations e.g. Plumbers in London, create or fully update your Google My Business account and don’t forget about optimising your NAP listings!
I hope the benefits presented above convince you why you should think seriously about SEO & Digital marketing in 2020. If you are not sure where to start your journey with search engine optimisation then read my other blogs or contact me directly on my Twitter.
